Friends of Angela Davis Park
Friends of Angela Davis Park is a series of collaborative events organized by Regina Agu and Gabriel Martinez which uses the programming committee as a model for critical intervention. The work takes the form of free events organized in the park by a group of concerned citizens. We understand urban space as historical and subject to change. Readings, workshops, and performances will engage the audience in the living history of Houston's built environment.
In addition to the programming, a small field guide will be published annotating and documenting the project. It will contain key texts about spatial politics as well as a look at the life of Angela Davis. It will document the flora and fauna of the park and its various social uses during the course of the project.
Angela Davis Park was established in 2012 in Houston, TX as an interaction with the city landscape and a celebration of the life and work of the park's namesake. Friends of Angela Davis Park was awarded a 2014 Idea Fund grant.
